Renowned solo artist and former Talking Heads front man David Byrne will sign copies of his new project, Here Lies Love, at the MoMA Design and Book Store. Please note: The signing is limited to copies of Here Lies Love purchased at the MoMA Design and Book Store only.
Here Lies Love is a double-disc song cycle—improbably poignant, decidedly surreal, and surprisingly thought provoking—about the rise and fall of the Philippines' notorious Imelda Marcos. It was conceived by David Byrne; composed by Byrne and British DJ/recording artist Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook; and performed by a cast drawn from the worlds of indie rock, alt country, R&B, and pop. Byrne generously annotates each song in the CD booklet and illustrates the story with archival photos. In a detailed preface, he reveals what drew him to this subject and the bumpy route he took to launch the project and, ultimately, record this CD. Once again, Byrne—beloved as musician, thinker and bicyclist-about-town—reveals the breadth and singularity of his vision.
The Here Lies Love Special Edition includes a twenty-two-song double CD, a DVD with six videos featuring songs from the album cut to archival and historical footage from the Philippines, and a 114-page clothbound book with lyrics, photos, and essays. $34.98
