PopRally is a series of events at MoMA and MoMA PS1 that serve as a gateway for young and diverse audiences to engage with the Museum. Led by a cross-departmental committee of Museum staff, PopRally produces dynamic programs including artist collaborations, performances, film screenings, and digital content that encourage new and experimental ways of engaging with modern and contemporary art.
PopRally presents an exclusive after-hours viewing of the exhibition New Photography 2009: Walead Beshty, Daniel Gordon, Leslie Hewitt, Carter Mull, Sterling Ruby, Sara VanDerBeek. Using digital photo-booth technology, guests can also construct their own take-away photographs using backgrounds newly designed by Gordon, Hewitt, and VanDerBeek. Music is provided by Andrew Kuo. Creative dress is encouraged.
This year, MoMA’s annual New Photography exhibition has expanded to highlight the work of six artists through some twenty works. Although each artist in the exhibition represents different working methods, their pictures all begin in the studio or the darkroom and result from processes involving collection, assembly, and manipulation.
PopRally is made possible with generous support from Jerry I. Speyer and Katherine G. Farley.
