PopRally presents An Artist Talk With Mika Rottenberg

Tuesday, July 1, 2008, 7:00 p.m.

Theater 3 (The Celeste Bartos Theater), mezzanine, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building

The Cullman Education and Research Building is located at 4 West 54 St.

PopRally is pleased to present a special evening with video artist Mika Rottenberg, whose work explores the relationship between women's bodies and systems of production. Rottenberg is best known for her videos featuring working women, cast for their distinguishing physical characteristics, performing a kind of modern-day alchemy; tears are farmed as the secret ingredient for bread, and acrylic fingernails are made into maraschino cherries through elaborate zigzag assembly-line processes. With her use of humor and seductively disorienting spaces, Rottenberg opens up a funhouse mirror dimension for us to peer into—one that is at once zany and eerily true to life.

Following the artist's presentation, Jenny Schlenzka, Assistant Curator at KW, Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin and curatorial liaison through KW at The Museum of Modern Art, moderates a discussion about the artist's work. Afterward there will be a cocktail reception featuring DJ Well Revered.

This event starts promptly at 7:00.

TICKETS ($6 in advance, $8 at the door) are available online and at the Museum Film and information desks. Ticket sales are limited.

You must be twenty-one or older to attend this event.

PopRally would like to thank Grolsch and Fred for their sponsorship.
