Artist Franz Erhard Walther (German, b. 1939) will be present in the galleries for a special presentation of First Work Set (1963–69), which is currently on display. Comprising 58 fabric elements, First Work Set is a series of propositions for action that can only be fully activated through human participation. The work debuted at MoMA in 1969, as part of Spaces, one of the first American museum exhibitions for which artists were invited to make on-site installations; Walther was present during the exhibition to guide visitors through the use of his sculptures. He now joins us 42 years later for a demonstration with the original objects and an informal Q&A. This event is free and open to the public.
