Mildred’s Lane Swarming with Salt & Cedar’s Megan O’Connell and Leon Johnson

Saturday, October 27, 2012, 12:30 p.m.

The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, Mezzanine

These frequent visits by collaborating artists, writers, and critics at Mildred's Lane invite the public to participate in collective tasks and discussions, from hosting food-related events to explorations of creative processes related to the visual arts, writing, biology, and more. All Swarmings take place at MoMA Studio: Common Senses on an impromptu basis during opening hours, unless otherwise noted.

Salt & Cedar is focused on print production in support of Detroit’s creative economies. The studio generates custom posters, books, and ephemera that increase the visibility of Detroit cultures. The press also yields new alliances and initiatives through visiting artists/educators, exhibitions, a pop-up cinema, farm-to-table events, and workshops within its 3,000-square-foot space. Instructors at Salt & Cedar have taught across the country, offering workshops in traditional and experimental printing, book structures, and papermaking. They will lead an introductory bookbinding workshop at MoMA, with simple sewing structures for kids alongside more advanced tutorials on soft cover, monastery-style journals.

In conjunction with the exhibition MoMA Studio: Common Senses

This event is free and participation is on a first-come first-served basis.
