Marlene Dumas: Measuring Your Own Grave is the first major survey of the work of Marlene Dumas to be organized in the United States. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, and living in Amsterdam since 1976, Dumas rigorously investigates the human condition through portraiture, figuration, and an ongoing, painterly exploration of the body. This lecture explores Dumas's subjects, sources, and the myriad issues she addresses through her work.

Lecturer Esther Adler (MA, University of Maryland) is a curatorial assistant in the Department of Drawings at MoMA.

In conjunction with the exhibition Marlene Dumas: Measuring Your Own Grave

Tickets ($5; members, corporate members, students, seniors, and staff of other museums $3) can be purchased at the Museum at the lobby information desk, at the film desk, or in the Education and Research Building lobby.
