The Armory Show is New York’s foremost fair devoted to the most important art of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2012, the fair will again feature The Armory Show – Modern, a section specializing in modern and secondary market material on Pier 92, while Pier 94 will continue to be a venue to premiere new works by living artists. The opening preview and party for The Armory Show 2012 helps sustain the world-renowned exhibition programming of The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1.
The Armory Show is proud to announce that artist and urban planner Theaster Gates has been chosen as the fair's 2012 commissioned artist. Gates’s work, a provocative yet poetic repurposing of historical ephemera, will be used to create the visual identity of The Armory Show 2012. The fair introduced its annual commission in 2002 and four years later began publishing an annual series of editions by its commissioned artists to benefit The Pat Hearn and Colin de Land Cancer Foundation and The Museum of Modern Art.
