An Evening with Ava DuVernay
Thursday, December 12, 7:00 PM
This year's Adrienne Shelly Foundation Woman of Vision salute, honoring filmmaker Ava DuVernay, features a special screening of her latest film, Middle of Nowhere (2012). Winner of the Sundance 2012 Best Director Award, the film chronicles a woman's struggle to adapt to life after her husband's incarceration. As the couple stares into the hollow end of an eight-year prison sentence, Ruby (Emayatzy Corinealdi) must learn to live another life, one marked by shame and separation. Through a chance encounter with hard-working bus driver Brian (David Oyelowo) and a stunning betrayal that shakes her to the core, she is soon propelled in new and often frightening directions of self-discovery.
