The Bling Ring, the latest film from Oscar-winning writer-director Sofia Coppola, tells the story—based on actual events—of a group of fashion- and fame-obsessed teenagers who burglarize celebrities’ homes in Los Angeles. Tracking their targets' whereabouts online, they break in and steal their designer clothes and possessions. Through the members of the "Bling Ring," we witness the naiveté and mistakes of youth, amplified by today's culture of celebrity and luxury-brand obsession. As teenage fun spins out of control, we're left with a sobering view of our media-saturated contemporary landscape.
