Because each research center has its own focus and policies, a good starting point for research is the Library, where most books and periodicals may be centrally accessed. The combined catalogue of the Library, Archives, and study centers, called DADABASE, is available online. Library staff will help you to locate relevant collections and materials.

For primary source materials related to the history of The Museum of Modern Art as an institution, contact the Museum Archives. For general research about modern art, including catalogues from past Museum exhibitions, contact the Library. For materials related to works in the Museum's collections, including films and videos, consult the relevant study center.

The Library, Museum Archives, and several study centers are now located at the Museum’s new Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building in midtown Manhattan. The Library also maintains a reading room at MoMA QNS, in Long Island City, Queens. For details on access, locations, and hours, please see the Library FAQ
