8:00 P.M.–11:00 P.M.
MoMA

Join PopRally and Recess art space for a night when contemporary art collides with the modern canon. Eleven emerging artists "intervene" in MoMA's Painting and Sculpture Galleries with objects and performances created specifically for this night, engaging with the Museum's collection in new and unexpected ways. Guests encounter a live restaging of Pablo Picasso’'s iconic Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), amateur dream interpretations in the Surrealism gallery, a “Lookbook” tour of the collection based on artists’ personal styles (complete with giveaway trading cards), and more. Artists include A.K. Burns, galería perdida, Kara Hearn, Corin Hewitt, Katherine Hubbard, Jerome Marshak, Molly McFadden, John Miserendino, Kenya (Robinson), Julia Sherman, and Laura Vitale. Musical performance by Title TK (Cory Arcangel, Howie Chen, and Alan Licht).

Recess is an artists’ workspace open to the public. At once a studio and exhibition space, Recess presents ambitious projects that embrace experimentation and focus on process.

The works displayed in MoMA’s Alfred H. Barr, Jr., Painting and Sculpture Galleries on the fourth and fifth floors roughly span the years 1880 to 1980, highlighting individual stylistic movements, artists, and themes, including Post-Impressionism, Cubism, the work of Henri Matisse, Claude Monet's Water Lilies, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, Minimalism, and Conceptual art, among other subjects. Guests also have a rare opportunity to see Edvard Munch's The Scream (1895), which will temporarily be on view; and Artist's Choice: Trisha Donnelly, the most recent iteration of the Artist's Choice series, for which contemporary artists are invited to organize an exhibition drawn from works in MoMA's collection.

Admission includes an exclusive collection gallery viewing and a cocktail reception.
