|ND/NF at 40: Old Joy with Yo La Tengo and Daniel London
Sunday, April 17, 2011
Join PopRally as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the New Directors/New Films festival with a special screening of Kelly Reichardt's Old Joy. The film will be introduced by co-star Daniel London, and followed by a reception featuring a DJ set by two members of the renowned indie band Yo La Tengo.
Kelly Reichardt's luminous film examines the friendship of Mark (Daniel London), who is settling down with a baby on the way, and Kurt (Will Oldham), an aging hippie. The two friends are at odds with respect to responsibility and nonconformity, but each is curious about the other’s realm. When they become lost on a hiking trip and must spend the night in the woods—a setting at once pastoral and menacing—their true selves are revealed. The film's soundtrack was composed by Yo La Tengo. Old Joy was a New Directors/New Films 2006 selection and is a part of MoMA's film collection.
The New Directors/New Films festival, presented jointly by The Film Society of Lincoln Center and The Museum of Modern Art, introduces New York audiences to the work of emerging or not-yet-established filmmakers from around the world.
Screening begins promptly at 7:00 p.m., with reception following.
Admission includes film screening and cocktail reception.
