| The Ride Sunday, May 31, 2009 7:00–11:00 P.M. MoMA Theater I |
PopRally presents an exclusive preview of The Ride, a new documentary film by New York artist and filmmaker Meredith Danluck. Danluck spent a year with professional bull riders, exploring the lives of modern cowboys in the American West. The Ride follows its subjects inside and outside the ring, from Professional Bull Riders CEO Randy Bernard to champion riders Rocky McDonald and Justin McBride to bull-riding hopeful (and Amish cowboy) Willy Ropp. The screening is followed by a Q&A with Danluck moderated by MoMA curator Eva Respini. Cocktails and exhibition viewing begin at 7:00; the screening starts promptly at 8:00. A reception follows the screening. Into the Sunset: Photography's Image of the American West will be open for viewing before the screening. The exhibition, organized by Respini, examines how photography has pictured the American West from 1850 to the present, bringing together works by more than seventy American photographers. Special thanks to Grolsch, Jack Daniel's and Sud de France wines Gérard Bertrand, Laurent Miquel, and Val d'Orbieu. |
