Novosibirsk (New Siberia) is the next runway on the itinerary. London wishes to meet artists who live far removed from the population centers of Europe. But are there any media artists in Novosibirsk?

The reports are contradictory. Novosibirsk is a science city, built to house the elite of the Soviet science community. Utopians hoped this concentration of intelligence would show the way to a better life for all humankind.

Others paint the place as a failed industrial experiment. The environs are polluted, and "everyone who could walk has gone." The best minds are working in India and Pakistan on weapons projects.

London ponders the alternatives: Novosibirsk or the picturesque towns on the Volga River, not far from Moscow? One Muscovite advised, "Les artistes ne sont pas des champignons." Unlike mushrooms, artists are not found in far distant fields.

But London's contacts in Novosibirsk claim to have several artists waiting to meet her. Didn't someone say, "when in doubt, push on!" Tomorrow, Novosibirsk.
