2013. USA. Directed by Zachary Heinzerling. The artists Ushio Shinohara and his wife Noriko met in New York City in the 1970s, and continue to live and work in their cramped loft apartment with their son Alex. For 40 lean years they have struggled to make it in the art world. Ushio received acclaim for his large boxing paintings, which he continues to make and sell. Noriko has given much of her life to her husband’s success as his assistant, but now she seeks to express her own artistic vision through a visual diary that tells the story of their tumultuous lives together. Filmmaker Heinzerling has close access to the family and captures their daily lives, personal tensions, and past history with both compassion and insight. Courtesy of Radius-TWC. 82 min.
