  • Duran Duran: Unstaged

2011. USA. Directed by David Lynch. Duran Duran’s concert at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on March 23, 2011, during the All You Need Is Now tour. The performance, which streamed live on YouTube as part of a five-part concert series that featured online components, is the first Web-based project to be featured in The Contenders. In the film, the band performs 18 songs, including "Hungry Like the Wolf," "A View to a Kill," "Ordinary World," and "Rio." Directed with a kinetic visual intensity that makes it immediately recognizable as a David Lynch creation, Duran Duran: Unstaged is quite unlike any concert-doc experience ever put on screen(s). MoMA’s premiere of this dream collaboration's theatrical version presents the band’s energy and Lynch’s playful interventions on the grand scale they so uniquely merit.
