Let MoMA teach you how to incorporate modern and contemporary art in your classroom. Our customized workshops introduce you to our educational approach, address themes and questions that arise in response to modern and contemporary art, and help you to create interdisciplinary links to your curriculum. We tailor each session to meet your goals and objectives as they relate to teaching with art.
Who
Active K-12 teachers and/or administrators. A minimum of 10 teachers is required. This is not a drop in program for individual teachers.

Can be arranged at any point during the year, on a weekday when the Museum is open to the public

Learn from Museum Educators from MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Learn from the staff and collections of MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Connecting Collections, a collaborative teacher institute, will support you in developing techniques for integrating the study of visual images into your classrooms. You will spend a day at each institution and return to your school with the ability to create meaningful object-based learning activities that can be integrated into a wide variety of curricula and meet standards for student achievement.

Modern Teachers Program
Use MoMA’s galleries as your classroom.

If you are interested in teaching your own classes in the Museum’s galleries, apply to be a Modern Teacher. A required orientation session and workshop takes place in the beginning of the school year. This session focuses on the logistics of scheduling and conducting a visit with your class, important security information, and strategies for engaging your students with works of art. Upon completion of this required session, you may schedule class visits on Tuesdays only, when the Museum is closed to the public.
Who
Space is limited and teachers must apply.
No more than three educators from one school may participate in this program and teachers must commit to conducting a minimum of two Modern Teacher visits during the course of the school year.

The fee for a Modern Teacher Visit is $55 per class of thirty students.

Resources for Teachers
Bring modern and contemporary art into your classroom. Our resources are tailored to school curricula, with particular application to social studies, visual art, history, and language arts. Suggested lessons include writing, research, and hands-on, art-based activities that encourage students to make connections between the visual arts and other disciplines.
