MoMA Teacher Workshop: Art and Activity
Art can be a powerful catalyst for building skills and understanding across a wide range of subjects. Intended for primary and secondary teachers from all disciplines, Art and Activity builds upon the inquiry-based approaches of Art and Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom, while delving into activity-based strategies that will make your students empowered participants in their own learning. These interactive methods promote an open-ended, two-way exchange of ideas that will encourage students to engage more deeply with each other and the objects of study.
During this workshop, MoMA educators will demonstrate interactive strategies for exploring objects and images with students of all ages. Along the way, we’ll demonstrate how these strategies can not only push your teaching into exciting and new directions, but also serve as tools for assessing student learning. The strategies and content that you will learn in this course parallel the proficiencies outlined in the Common Core State Standards, as they relate to literacy, speaking and listening, critical thinking, analyzing informational text, and citing evidence to support arguments.
