Biographical Note

Ms. Harris is a graduate of the Yale School of Organization and Management and the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She was a vice president of Emigrant Savings Bank, director of exhibitions at Pratt Institute, assistant to the administrator at The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and editor of art books for Harry N. Abrams, author of articles on contemporary art, and treasurer of the Franklin Furnace Archive. In 1992 she became the director of the Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey.


Scope and Content Note

The records of Ellen Schwartz Harris, Deputy Director for Finance and Auxiliary Activities, September 1989 to January 1992, are contained in two document boxes (5.5" and 2"). Box 1 contains six folders of outgoing correspondence filed in reverse chronological order. Box 2 contains one folder of original facsimile letters received during this period, and a Publications Department Strategic Planning Project Summary by Larraine Balk, dated 3/10/90. The function of this position was to oversee the departments of Finance, Sales and Marketing, Publications, and Food Services.

The papers of Ellen Schwartz Harris, Deputy Director for Finance and Auxiliary Activities, were transferred to the Museum Archives by Ethel Shein, then Assistant to the Director of the Museum, in August, 1995.
