Can my class stay in the Museum after my guided visit?

Classes may stay in the Museum after their visit on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Classes may not stay after their tour on Tuesdays when the Museum is closed to the public. Classes that remain at the Museum after their guided visit will receive entrance tickets and may come and go freely for the rest of that day. Classes may not enter the Museum before their designated tour start time.

Where can I eat my lunch?

Unfortunately, the Museum does not have lunchroom facilities for students. There are various public spaces in midtown where students may have lunch. A partial list is available in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).

Where do I check in?

Group Services will send you a confirmation package that details all logistical information. School groups check in at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building at 4 West Fifty-fourth Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

How many students can fit in a group?

The maximum group size is thirty students with a few exceptions. Smaller classes may not be combined to compose a larger group of over thirty students.

How many chaperones should I bring?

The Museum recommends one chaperone per every ten students. Classes may not bring more than five chaperones per group.

What should my students bring?

Students do not need to bring anything as the MoMA educator will provide all necessary supplies. Students' belongings will be checked upon arrival, and students should avoid bringing any valuable items to the Museum.

What happens if I am late?

If your groups arrive late, your program will be shorted accordingly, finishing at the originally designated time. Groups more than thirty minutes late will be canceled.

What if I need to cancel my tour?

The Museum strongly encourages teachers to avoid canceling tours. However, in the event of cancellation, please contact groupservices@moma.org as soon as possible.

What can I do to prepare my class to go self-guided through the Museum?

Teachers should check out our online teacher resources for pre- and post-visit suggestions and lesson plans that can be taught in the classroom. Teachers should always review the Museum rules with students before their visit.

What if I want more information or would like to speak with someone about my tour?

You can contact schoolprograms@moma.org or call (212) 333-1112 at any time.
