Weekend Teacher Workshops
MoMA offers a wide variety of professional development opportunities for elementary- and secondary-school teachers. These programs introduce modern and contemporary works in the Museum's collection, explore interdisciplinary curriculum applications, and introduce methods for teaching with art objects.
Workshops for teachers take place on Saturdays during the school year. Workshops are generally held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The fee of $45 per teacher per workshop includes instruction and classroom materials. The next Weekend Teacher Workshop will be offered in the fall.
Summer Institute for Teachers
Connecting Collections
July 13–17, 2009
This weeklong program for teachers is a collaboration between MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Working with modern and contemporary art from each collection, this national institute encourages educators to develop techniques for integrating the study of visual images into their classrooms. Participants return to their schools with the ability to create meaningful object-based learning activities that can be integrated into a wide variety of curricula and meet standards for student achievement.
Fee: $400 per educator

Modern Teachers Program
This program is for kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers interested in leading their own classes in the Museum's galleries. This orientation session focuses on the logistics of the visit and reviews important security information. Teachers are encouraged to explore the galleries on their own before developing a sequenced plan for their class visit. Teachers are also encouraged to register for Teaching with Objects, a weekend teacher workshop. Teachers may schedule class visits on Tuesdays, when the Museum is closed to the public, for a fee of $40 per class of thirty students.
Teachers who wish to lead their own classes in the galleries must attend a free orientation session offered annually in the fall in order to participate in the program. Information on the 2009/2010 session will be posted in late spring early summer.
For more information about programs at the Museum, please call (212) 708-9882 or e-mail teacherprograms@moma.org.
