MoMA offers a broad range of options for teachers, from introductory workshops to intensive weeklong institutes.

  • Strategies for engaging and teaching with objects
  • Connecting MoMA's collection to your curriculum
  • Fees: Half-day workshops (three hours) are $20 per educator. Workshop fee includes instruction, resources, an Educator Pass for unlimited admission to the Museum, and a 10% discount on educational materials at the MoMA Stores.

Teaching with Objects: Exploring The Bauhaus
    Saturday, November 14, 2009
    10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Using the upcoming exhibition Bauhaus 1919–1933: Workshops for Modernity as a foundation, this workshop introduces teachers to a variety of strategies for engaging students with objects, from discussions and guided questions to drawing, writing, and project-based activities. Through a wide diversity of objects, including examples of industrial design, furniture, graphics, film, photography, book design, weaving, theater, painting, and sculpture, we explore the school's approach and apply its curricular strategies to K–12 teaching practice. This workshop is open to teachers of any subject and grade level, but it is most suitable for the art/design classroom. The $50 fee includes all instruction, resources, light breakfast, and lunch.

The guides are informed by issues posed by the selected works in a variety of media, but its organization and lesson topics are tailored to school curriculum, with particular application to social studies, visual art, history, and language arts. Lessons are accompanied by writing, research, and hands-on, art-based activities that encourage students to make connections between the visual arts and other disciplines.
