How does Dual Membership work?
Dual Memberships are for people who share the same mailing address. This membership gives you the same benefits as an Individual JA Membership, but it is assumed that your guest will be the person with whom you joined (under most circumstances). You can get a Dual JA Membership for $1,200, which includes a required Dual Museum Membership of $120.

Can I bring a guest to events with a Dual membership?
With an Individual JA Membership, you can always bring a guest to MoMA exhibition openings, however, most Junior Associates events are limited to JA members only due to issues of space, special requests by our host, etc. With Dual JA Membership, your guest at MoMA exhibition openings must be the person with whom you joined.

Can I bring a guest to events?
In general, Junior Associates events are for Junior Associates members only, and we cannot accommodate guests.

What is the tax deductibility of my membership dues?
For an Individual JA Membership, the tax-deductibility is $535. For a Dual JA Membership, it is $890.

What if I’m already a MoMA member?
Then let us know, and you will only have to pay The Junior Associates dues; $675 for Individual and $1,080 for Dual.

What’s the difference between an affiliate museum group, such as The Junior Associates, and a membership level?
A membership level is a category of giving to MoMA rather than a cohesive group. The higher the category of membership you choose, the more benefits you get, building off of the benefits of the level below you. An affiliate museum group, on the other hand, is an auxiliary group that supports and is supported by the Museum and participates collectively, such as having a schedule of events designed specifically for it. To be a member of an affiliate group, you must be a member of the Museum, joining at least at an entry-level membership category, although you may choose to join at a higher level of membership.

One common misconception is that because the JA dues are $750, then your Museum Membership category is something equivalent to a Supporting Member (dues $500); however, while JAs receive many of the same benefits, their category of membership is technically “Individual,” unless a member chooses to join at a higher level. The only benefits that a Supporting member receives that a JA member does not are four complimentary guest passes and an occasional special program.

Who are the members of The Junior Associates?
Our members are very eclectic, coming from a variety of professions, backgrounds, and experiences. We have investment bankers, graduate students, and artists, just to name a few, ranging in age from about 21 to 40+. Some are avid art collectors while others are learning about contemporary art for the first time. However, the one thing our members share in common is an active interest in contemporary art, the art community, and The Museum of Modern Art.

Is there a dress code?
No. Many wear “business attire,” but we’ve seen everything from tinfoil to netting, so feel free to express yourself! We might encourage you to use some good judgment, but we can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.

How often are events?
We host about one event per week on a weeknight, but sometimes we can have as many as three. Check out our schedule of events for more details.

What’s the average event like?
A typical event will start at 6:30 p.m. Guests will filter in, have a drink and a snack, and then the program will begin around 6:45 p.m. It will last about an hour, at which point members can ask questions, grab another drink and mingle, or split.

How many people usually attend an event?
It really depends on the type of event, but it can be anywhere from 30 to 100. The average event usually has an attendance of 50 members.

How many JAs are there?
The number changes daily, but we currently have nearly 800 members.

What’s the average age of a JA?
Our members range in age from 21 to 40+, but the average age is 30.

When does my membership commence?
Your membership begins the day you sign up and lasts one year.

Will I learn how to collect art?
Our program is not a class on collecting per se, but you take away from it what you want. We visit numerous collections, both of established collectors and of those just starting, so there is ample opportunity to ask questions of the experts. By visiting artists, galleries, and art fairs, and by speaking with people actively involved in the art community, you might learn more about your taste in art, what is available to you, and various approaches to collecting. Again, we supply you with resources, but it’s up to you to determine how our programming best suits your goals.

Do the events cost extra?
In general, no. The only events that cost extra are trips and benefits.
