In November 1998 The Junior Associates pledged $1 million to The Museum of Modern Art's $858 million capital campaign to renovate and significantly expand the Museum's facility. This gift was the largest in the group's history, and as with the overall campaign, the JAs set this goal with the idea in mind that it would take several years to accomplish.
The Junior Associates had great success in raising the $1 million through such events as the Armory Show Opening Night Benefit and the Work in Progress film benefit, along with many generous gifts from individual Junior Associate members.
This $1 million gift supported two important projects. The first, Conversations with Contemporary Artists, is an educational lecture series highlighting the work of emerging and established artists. The second is the JA Endowment, a fund created to support MoMA's exhibitions and acquisitions.
The Junior Associates also launched a second campaign to raise an additional $500,000 for MoMA's affiliate, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center. The JAs are proud to support P.S.1's commitment to contemporary art and emerging artists.
The Junior Associates' dedication to both MoMA and P.S.1 is recognized and appreciated by the Museum's Trustees and staff, and by the wider art community. The group looks forward to playing a strong role in the future of the Museum and hopes that JA members will continue their generous support of the organization.
