For Print/Out, Jacob Samuel has published a new portfolio with the artists and twin brothers Gert & Uwe Tobias, who had worked extensively in large-scale woodcuts (as well as collage, watercolor, and ceramics) but never in etching. Over the course of three days in the artists’ Cologne studio, Samuel taught them the basics of etching and helped them translate and adapt motifs from popular culture, Eastern European folk art, and, in particular, reproductions of nineteenth-century drawings by schizophrenic patients.
