When it opened in 1929, The Museum of Modern Art was one of the first U.S. museums dedicated to exhibiting and collecting modern art. From its humble beginnings in a few rented rooms in the Heckscher Building on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, the Museum grew quickly, fueled by the enthusiasm of its many visitors.
