A major philanthropist, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. supported numerous cultural initiatives in the United States and abroad. He was the sole financier and guiding patron behind New York’s Rockefeller Center, a monumental, multi-building complex that included a major public art program, which he hoped would make the site “a mecca for lovers of art.”
