Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet)
Nam June Paik
An active force in San Francisco counterculture in the mid-1960s, Conner collaborated on light shows for legendary rock musicians and became known for his non-narrative collage films. The mandala was one of his favorite pictograms. During the 1970s, he focused on drawing and photography and made many photographs of the late-1970s West Coast punk-rock scene. One of Conner's films uses the song “Mongoloid,” by Devo, as a soundtrack.
