Marlene Dumas: Measuring Your Own Grave is the first major survey of the work of Marlene Dumas to be organized in the United States. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, and living in Amsterdam since 1976, Dumas rigorously investigates the human condition through portraiture, figuration, and an ongoing, painterly exploration of the body. This lecture explores Dumas’s subjects, sources, and the myriad issues she addresses through her work.
