Based on research in the Peter and Alison Smithson Archives at Harvard University, this presentation explores seven speculative master plans and architectural designs for cities in the Middle East, including Kuwait, Doha, and Baghdad, by the husband-and-wife team of Peter and Alison Smithson. These as-yet-undocumented projects illustrate the architects' important role in transcultural architectural exchange in the context of midcentury modernism.
Peter Christensen is a PhD Candidate at Harvard University.
