Joëlle Tuerlinckx’s American Studies
April 19, 2006

The New York premiere of Joëlle Tuerlinckx’s Etudes Américaines (American Studies) (2003, Belgium) is presented in conjunction with her solo exhibition at The Drawing Center.

Organized by Barbara London, Associate Curator, Department of Film and Media.

Etudes Américaines (American Studies). 2003. Belgium. Directed by Joëlle Tuerlinckx. The United States appears as Tuerlinckx wishes to see it: as an image that shifts with respect to the knowledge the country has gathered around itself over time. The image interferes with notions of time and space. Tuerlinckx alters the distance that usually separates viewers from subject matter; this distance is some-times explicit, silent, cruel, or dull, and it is always critical. 90 min. New York premiere.
Wednesday, April 19, 8:00 (artist present). T2
