78th Academy-Nominated Documentary Shorts
February 26, 2006

The Department of Film and Media presents the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 2005 nominees in the category of Best Documentary Shorts. Nominations in the categories of Best Animated Shorts and Best Live-Action Shorts will be shown only at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International, 111 East Fifty-ninth Street, at 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25. The screenings are introduced by Robert Osborne. Ticket prices are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with valid ID. Call (888) 778-7575 to reserve tickets.

The Death of Kevin Carter: Casualty of the Bang Bang Club. USA. 2005. Produced and directed by Dan Krauss. About the South African photojournalist, Kevin Carter, who committed suicide weeks after his photograph won the New York Times its first Pulitzer Prize in photography. 27 min.
God Sleeps in Rwanda. USA/Rwanda. 2005. Produced and directed by Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman. About five Rwandan women who are rebuilding their society and their nation after the 1994 genocide. 30 min.
The Mushroom Club. USA/Japan. 2005. A Farallon Film Production. Directed by Steven Okazaki. About the men and women who survived the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film's title refers to a support group created for children born with defects caused by the nuclear contamination. 35 min.
A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin. USA. 2005. Directed by Eric Simonson. About the "greatest radio presentation in the history of the medium"—Norman Corwin's broadcast announcing V-E Day, May 8th, 1945. 40 min.
