The Gospel According to St. Matthew
March 25, 2005

The Department of Film and Media presents a special screening of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964). This restored 35mm print is the result of a collaboration between the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Rome) and Mediaset, whose program Cinema Forever places the restoration of cherished classics of Italian cinema as its highest priority. This distinguished partnership has made it possible for Pasolini’s elegantly austere cinematic homage to the scripture of St. Matthew to be discovered or experienced once again.

Organized by Anne Morra, Assistant Curator, Department of Film and Media, in cooperation with Mediaset-Cinema Forever and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.

Il Vangelo secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to St. Matthew). 1964. Italy/France. Directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Screenplay by Pasolini, based on the Gospel according to Matthew. With Enrique Irazoqui, Margherita Caruso, Ferruccio Nuzzo. In Italian, English subtitles. 142 min.
