77th Academy-Nominated Documentary Shorts
February 20, 2005

MoMA presents the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominees from 2004 in the category of Best Documentary Shorts. Nominations in the categories of Best Animated Shorts and Best Live-Action Shorts will be shown only at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International, 111 East 59 Street, on Saturday, February 19 at 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. MoMA members are offered a special reduced rate of $3.00, and can call (888) 778-7575 to reserve tickets.

Autism Is a World. USA. Director/Producer: Geraldine Wurburg for State of the Art, Inc., Washington D.C. "Sue has autism. Its causes and cured are unknown. This is a journey inside autism to explain what Sue feels and does, and how she relates to others." 40 mins.

The Children of Leningradsky. Poland. Directors/Producers: Hanna Poel and Andrzej Celinski. "The plight of homeless children in Moscow." 35 mins.

Hardwood. Canada. Director: Hubert Davis. Producer: Erin Faith Young. For the National Film Board of Canada, Montreal. "Hubert Davis, the son of a former Harlem Globetrotter, explores how the father's decisions affected the son's life." 29 mins.

Mighty Times: The Children's March. USA. Directors/Producers: Robert Hudson and Bobby Houston. For Tell the Truth Pictures, Ojai, California and distributed by the Southern Poverty Law Center. "An oral history of civil disobedience that saved the Civil Rights Movement from obscurity." 40 mins.

Sister Rose's Passion. USA. Director/Producer: Oren Jacoby. Producer: Steve Kalafer. For New Jersey Studios LLC, Flemington, New Jersey. "Sister Rose Thering has dedicated her life to fighting anti-semitism." 39 mins.
