Golden Oldies of Music Video
April 17 and 24, May 1, 2003

The top thirty-five hits of 1965–85, drawn from the Museum’s extensive collection of music videos, are presented in three programs (screened on April 17, 24, and May 1). The videos, which after offbeat beginnings later gained a wider broadcast on public-access cable and early MTV, reveal the dynamic collaboration that occurred between artists and musicians during an era of rapidly changing technologies. Their impact on the arts has been widely acknowledged, and they continue to influence the Internet today. Program VJs Laurie Anderson, Kim Gordon, and Pipilotti Rist look back and highlight the music and video innovations.

Organized by Barbara London, Associate Curator, Department of Film and Media. The Department thanks The Contemporary Arts Council and The Junior Associates of The Museum of Modern Art for their support.
