R. O. Blechman and The Ink Tank: A Celebration
January 17, 2003

Paying tribute to a remarkable five decades of award-winning animation and illustration by R. O. Blechman and The Ink Tank, the New York-based studio Blechman founded in 1978, the Department of Film and Media presents an evening with the artist accompanied by films, commercials, television specials, broadcast graphics, public service announcements, and music videos. This rich program at 6:15 is followed by a rare screening at 8:45 of Blechman's Emmy Award-winning animated version of Igor Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale (produced in 1983 for public television's Great Performances), which will be accompanied live by the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Richard Auldon Clark.

Television viewers have delighted in Blechman's collaborations with the Children's Television Workshop on such influential programs as Sesame Street, 3-2-1 Contact, and The Electric Company; and with Disney/ABC, Nickelodeon, HBO, MTV, and the Cartoon Network on identity campaigns, titles, and live-action/animated pieces.

Organized by Joshua Siegel, Assistant Curator, Department of Film and Media. Made possible in part by a grant from the 42 Street Development Corporation. Special thanks to Frederic S. Papert and Richard O'Connor.
