Sam Taylor-Wood. Still Life. 2001

Stillness:
Michael Snow/Sam Taylor-Wood

October 5–November 28, 2005

Film and Media Gallery

Second floor

Media artists Michael Snow (Toronto) and Sam Taylor-Wood (London) deal in different ways with portraiture and stillness. Their respective approaches are displayed in five intimate media works. In Snow’s Solar Breath (Northern Caryatid) (2002), for example, fluttering curtains both reveal and conceal an idyllic landscape in rural Newfoundland. Taylor-Wood’s David (2004), commissioned by The National Portrait Gallery, London, portrays well-known soccer player David Beckham, bare-chested and asleep.

Organized by Jytte Jensen, Curator, and Barbara London, Associate Curator, Department of Film and Media.

Audiovisual equipment and technology in The Yoshiko and Akio Morita Gallery is generously provided by Sony Corporation of America.
