The MoMA2000
Exhibitions In October 1999, The Museum of
Modern Art launched a seventeen-month-long series of three
exhibitions, ModernStarts (1880-1920), Making Choices
(1920-1960), and Open Ends (1960-2000), that
presented well-known masterworks in new contexts, juxtaposing the
familiar with lesser-known and recently acquired works by world
famous and emerging artists.
The MoMA2000 exhibition
series offered fresh interpretations of the underlying premises,
meanings, and diversity of modern and contemporary art. In
ModernStarts, Making Choices, and Open
Ends artworks from each period were shown alongside with works
from other periods, creating a dialogue between various historical
moments. Works in all mediums were presented throughout the Museum
in innovative, multidisciplinary ways.
