  • MoMA, Floor 4, Collection Galleries The Alfred H. Barr, Jr. Painting and Sculpture Galleries

The works displayed on this floor roughly span the years 1940 to 1980. Within an overall chronological flow, galleries highlight individual stylistic movements, artists, and themes, including Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, Minimalism, Conceptual art, and the work of Joseph Beuys, among other subjects. These galleries are frequently reinstalled in an effort to feature a wide range of artworks in various configurations, reflecting the view that there are countless ways to explore the history of modern art and the Museum’s rich collection.

Continue your visit in the Painting and Sculpture Galleries on the fifth floor, which feature art made between 1880 and 1940.

How we identified these works

In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
