Belle de Jour. 1967. France. Directed by Luis Buñuel. In French; English subtitles. 100 min.

Screenplay by Buñuel, Jean-Claude Carriere. With Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorrel, Michel Piccoli, Genevieve Page, Francisco Rabal, Pierre Clementi. In what is perhaps the best of Buñuel’s late masterpieces, Deneuve plays a prostitute whose “career” is unknown to her husband. Her performance enriches the vision of a director who spent his career shocking bourgeois sensibilities.
