MOMA AND STUDIO IN A SCHOOL HOST HANDS-ON STUDIO FOR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE ABBY ALDRICH ROCKEFELLER SCULPTURE GARDEN

Opportunity to Photograph Students Creating Art Inspired by Automobiles of the Future

First group of students: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Second group: 1 p.m.–3:30 p.m. (repeat of morning session)

WHAT:
The Museum of Modern Art and Studio in a School welcome junior high-school students from New York's five boroughs to Guts and Bolts: The Future of the Automobile, a discussion and hands-on studio workshop to take place in the Museum's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. MoMA educators will lead a discussion based on Different Roads: Automobiles for the Next Century, MoMA's ongoing exhibition of 9 automobiles installed in the Sculpture Garden and Museum lobby. Students will draw in their sketchbooks in the Sculpture Garden to create artworks inspired by these automobiles of the future.

A selection of the students' artworks will be on view in an exhibition at Studio in a School's Westside Art Studio, beginning Thursday, July 29, 1999.

The Studio in a School Association is a not-for-profit visual arts organization that brings comprehensive, high-quality arts programming and art experiences to students and teachers in New York City public schools, community centers, and transitional housing facilities. Now in its twenty-second year, SIAS reaches more than 32,000 children each year at more than 160 sites throughout the five boroughs.
