THE FIRST U.S. RETROSPECTIVE OF WORK FROM THE SAM SPIEGEL FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL, JERUSALEM

Series Features Ten Films and One Video by Students from Israel's Premier Film School The Sam Spiegel Film and Television School, Jerusalem

November 9–12, 1996

Founded in 1989 as a joint initiative of the Jerusalem Foundation and the Israel Ministry of Education and Culture, the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School is Israel's national training center for young filmmakers. The Sam Spiegel Film and Television School, Jerusalem is the first presentation mounted in the United States of work by filmmakers from this exciting new center. The retrospective, which runs from November 9 through November 12 at The Museum of Modern Art, features ten films and one videotape made between 1992 and 1996.

At the heart of the school's rigorous four-year curriculum is an emphasis on the short narrative film and the emotional engagement of the audience. The school has invigorated filmmaking in Israel; its works are applauded at international festivals and its students going on to careers in the growing Israeli film and television industry.

The Sam Spiegel Film and Television School, Jerusalem was organized by Laurence Kardish, Curator and Coordinator of Film Exhibitions, Department of Film and Video, The Museum of Modern Art, and Renen Schorr, Director, the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School.
