Emmanuel Plat has played the lead role in shaping the merchandising strategy for MoMA Design Store since joining the team in 2012. He spearheads the brand and product development for distribution through MoMA’s retail and wholesale channels while overseeing seasoned buying teams across a range of categories—including personal, technology, desk and home accessories, children’s products, art reproductions, books, furniture, and lighting. Plat works closely with MoMA’s curators to ensure close alignment with the Museum’s overall mission and has been instrumental in establishing MoMA Design Store as a platform for new product launches. Before joining MoMA, Plat built a 19-year career in merchandising, marketing, and administration with the Conran Group. Hired in 1992 as a department manager for the first Conran Shop to open in Paris, Plat was later tapped to manage the launch of the Conran Shop, which opened in Manhattan in 1999. From 2004 to 2011, Plat was president of the Conran Group’s New York business, supervised the group’s US operations, and built its e-commerce presence. Currently, Plat sits on the steering committee of NYCxDesign and continues to be a thought leader in the design and merchandising community.
